On 24 June 2025, the Recorded Crime in Scotland, 2024-5 figures were published. In summary: the number of recorded crimes has changed little since last year and remains down 51% from its peak in 1991. Non-sexual crimes of violence decreased by less than 1% and sexual crimes increased by 3% (although it’s worth noting that the number of sexual crimes reported has increased by 45% in the last decade; and the number of rape and attempted rapes reported has increased by 60% in the last decade). Damage and reckless behaviour crimes are now at their lowest level since 1976.
